Reports are surfacing today that the Jets likely wonít re-sign PK Mike Nugent and he will become an unrestricted free agent on Friday.
The Star Ledger is reporting that the Jets have made an offer to Nugent which he politely declined. The team will now focus on re-signing veteran Jay Feely who was signed last year after the Jets first game when Nugent suffered a quadriceps injury. Although Nugent recovered from the injury later in the season he never kicked again for the Jets. Nugent is a former 2nd round draft pick of the Jets in 2005.
In other news, it looks like itís going to come down to the wire regarding the status of G Brandon Moore. Moore has been rumored to be on the chopping block for the past few weeks due to a $7MM roster bonus due in March. Heís reportedly been working with the team to re-do his deal but according to sources, the Jets want to reduce his salary which is a bit perplexing since heíll undoubtedly be one of the most sought after guards if he becomes a free agent and is coming off his best season. Furthermore, itís unclear why the team would even consider getting rid of him after they are reportedly now close to $40MM under the salary cap after restructuring the contracts of S Kerry Rhodes and LB Calvin Pace this week.
Looks like Jets top wish list free agent, Ravens LB Bart Scott may not even make to the market as reports are surfacing today that Baltimore is close to locking up Scott to multi-year contract before Fridayís deadline. If this is true, the team will undoubtedly heavily pursue Scottís teammate LB Ray Lewis.
