LB Bart Scott: Finally a NY Jet.
After a day of conflicting reports that Ravens LB Bart Scott signed with the Jets then didn't, multiple sources are now confirming that Scott is indeed now a Jet.
Also, According to the Daily News, the team has come to terms with Ravens FA CB Corey Ivy and could be negotiating a trade for Eagles CB Lito Sheppard.
Nationalfootballpost.com started it early this morning by reporting that a confirmed multi-year deal between the Jets and Scott had been reached. However, conflicting reports soon after surfaced that Scott had agreed to terms with the Jets but was giving the Ravens' a last ditch chance to beat or match the Jets' deal. JetsInsider.com spoke to a source close to Scott's agent, Harold Lewis confirming this.
As morning turned into afternoon, more reports came about that there was an outright bidding war between Baltimore and NY. Finally, late this afternoon, it appears Scott ended up choosing the Jets and will now be reunited with his former defensive coordinator and new Jets coach Rex Ryan.
Terms of the deal were not yet available but it's reportedly a 6 year contract in excess of $45MM with at least half guaranteed.
The signing shores up the inside LB position opposite David Harris. The team is also reportedly negotiating with Scott's former teammate Ray Lewis but with the loss of Scott, you have to believe that the Ravens have amped up negotiations with Lewis as well.
Losing Scott would have been a big blow to the Jets as they earlier lost another prized free agent in Steelers G Chris Kemoeatu. Kemoeatu reportedly had agreed in principle to a deal with the Jets but at the last minute changed his mind and decided to re-sign with the Steelers for less money. The team will now continue to search for a replacement for the recently cut Brandon Moore.
In other news, Rich Cimini of the Daily news is reporting that the team also signed Ravens CB Corey Ivy and is negotiating to trade for former first round Eagles CB Lito Shepard. More on that potential blockbuster as it develops.
The team late last night also re-signed FB Tony Richardson to an undisclosed deal, taking the veteran off the free agency market. The NFL Network's Adam Shefter is also reporting that the Patriots have signed recently released FA TE Chris Baker to a multi year contract. Ex Jet Laveranues Coles, visited Buffalo today and will reportedly next meet with the Dolphins.
