BREAKING NEWS: Multiple sources are confirming that the Jets have completed a deal to bring in yet antoher ex-Raven and Rex Ryan favorite, Safety Jim Leonhard.

The four year veteran started his career in Buffalo as an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin in 2005. After three seasons with the Bills he was signed as a FA by Baltimore last year where he started 13 games and became a favorite of Rex Ryan. Last season he had 69 tackles, 1 sack and 1 INT. Leonhard also can return punts. He visited the team on Saturday and there had been speculation that a deal was imminent. There were a few reports earlier today that the Broncos had entered the picture but Leonhard decided to honor a verbal agreement he had made to Ryan and the Jets.

The Leonhard signing fills another big void on the Jets defense as he will move to the front of the depth chart at strong safety, playing next to Kerry Rhodes. The spot was platooned last year by several players, including Eric Smith, Hank Poteat and David Barrett.

In other news, there were reports yesterday that the Jets were interested in possibly re-signing David Bowens for depth at the MLB position. Bowens was cut last week during the team's salary cap massacre.

However, JI has learned that Bowens is meeting today with Eric Mangini and the Browns and could be offered a contract by day's end. If he does not sign with Cleveland, Bowens has not ruled out the possibility of returning to the Jets.
