After the Jets made a splash yesterday by trading up and selecting Southern California quarterback Mark Sanchez fifth overall, the Jets wasted no time today in grabbing another player they coveted.

The Jets acquired the Lions' third-round pick (65th overall) and drafted Iowa running back Shonn Greene. In return, the Lions received the 76th (third-round), 115th overall (fourth-round) and 228th (seventh-round) picks from the Jets.

The Jets entered the second day of the draft with glaring needs at tight end and wide reciever, however general manager Mike Tannenbaum continued to build on one of the team's strengths.

The Jets currently have the AFC's leading rusher in Thomas Jones and a dynamic playmaker in Leon Washington and Greene figures to fit nicely into head coach Rex Ryan's offensive scheme. While the Jets grabbed a potential franchise quarterback in Sanchez, Ryan has preached building a power rushing attack.

Greene is currently third on the team's depth chart, however that could soon change depending on Jones' offseason. Jones was a no-show at last week's voluntary minicamp and is believed to be seeking an extension on a contract which expires after the upcoming season. While Jones rushed for 1,312 yards and 13 touchdowns last season, the Jets reportedly have no intentions of extending a deal with a 30-year old running back.

Greene (5-10, 227) was one of the nation's most prolific backs while at Iowa, as he rushed for 1,850 yards and 20 touchdowns during his one season as a starter.

The Jets next and final pick will be in the sixth round (193rd overall).
