After orchestrating two blockbuster trades to net Southern California quarterback Mark Sanchez and Iowa running back Shonn Greene, the Jets presumable wrapped up their draft by adding depth to the unit now blocking for their phenoms. The Jets drafted drafted guard Matt Slauson in the sixth round (193rd overall) out of Nebraska.

Slauson joins the Jets with a rare combination of size (6-5, 316) and versatility that will help new head coach Rex Ryan implement his power-run attack. During Slauson's four years at Nebraska, he started at both tackle spots as well as at right guard.

While the Jets offensive line lacked depth, the team's decision to draft a guard leaves them with significant holes at tight end and wide receiver. It was believed that the Jets were going to address those needs, but they dealt away their second, fourth and seventh round picks for Sanchez and Greene.

Slauson delivered his finest collegiate season as a senior, as he was named second-team All-Big 12.

He will join veteran starters Alan Faneca, Brandon Moore and reserves Wayne Hunter and Robert Turner at the guard position.
