Jets Bring Back Bubba, Leon skips OTA's

With a serious hole in their TE corps, the Jets tried to add some depth by re-signing veteran TE Bubba Franks despite an injury plagued 2008. Also...the Jets are now minus their top two RB's starting May OTA's as Leon Washington joins Thomas Jones sitting out. Both RB's want a new contract.

Franks, a 10 year veteran only played eight games last year while battling a hip injury and only caught 6 passes for 47 yards. Before the Franks signing, second year man Dustin Keller had been the only TE on the roster with NFL experience. The Jets will undoubtedly keep a firm eye on the waiver wire to try to acquire another TE or two before the seasons starts.

Washington, based on published reports, apparently had a breakdown in contract extension negotiations within the past few days and has decided to skip OTA's for now in protest. He currently has one year left on his rookie deal which pays him a little over $500K and is looking for a well deserved extension with a big raise.

If both Jones and Washington continue to hold out, the spotlight will undoubtedly shine on third round draft pick rookie Shonn Greene who will be joining the OTA's along with QB Mark Sanchez when school is done.
