OTA’s ended abruptly last week for Jets QB Kellen Clemens as he had to leave practice early due to his wife Nicole going into labor and eventually giving birth to a baby boy. Well, today it was Leon Washington fiancé’s turn which kept the recently returned RB out of action.
“His fiancé, Charity, gave birth to a son, Noel,” said Head Coach Rex Ryan after practice. “I think Leon made a great decision because I missed my second kid being born and it’s hard to get over that one.”
So, after a three week absence from the team, the press will have to wait until next week’s minicamp to voir dire Washington regarding his holdout and contract situation. In other RB news, rookie Shonn Green is reportedly nursing sore ribs according to Ryan however he participated in all of the action today. LB David Harris is also still smarting after getting a helmet to the face by S Jim Leonhard last week while standing on the sidelines during practice. He was out today but should be back by next week.
A week after returning from his own holdout, RB Thomas Jones again evaded the media and did not comment on his situation. The RB’s were the main feature during practice today as the team concentrated on running plays today and none of the Jets QB’ had stand out performances today.
“I told Shotty (Brian Shottenheimer), Just keep feeding Thomas (Jones) that ball,” said Ryan “That looked pretty good.” With that big offensive line we have and those backs, everything is looking good over there.”
The team also announced that they waived DT/LS Anthony Harris today.
The team has one more OTA session tomorrow which is closed to the media then begins a 3 day minicamp next Tuesday that is mandatory for all players.
