The Jets announced they have released 10 year veteran Bubba Franks today who they re-signed in May after he played with the team last season.
Franks, who was re-signed in May but had sat out all of the teams organized activites and minicamps this spring due to a nagging knee injury. Head Coach Rex Ryan commenting at last month's minicamp said he was confident that Franks would be ready for training camp but his release today immediately fuels speculation that his progress rehabbing his kneww was not up to par. Last year Franks only played in nine games due to a hip injury.
The Jets only have one real TE with game experience in Dustin Keller on the roster. James Dearth is technically a TE but is used as the teams long snapper. The only other TE's on the team are converted DE Kareem Brown and rookies Jack Simmons and J'Nathan Bullock.
Look for the Jets to closely monitor the waiver wire or look to possibly make a trade to add more depth at the position.
