Extremely deficient in TE depth, the Jets signed journeyman TE Richard Owens on Tuesday.
Eager to bolster their extreme deficiency in TE depth, the Jets on Tuesday signed journeyman TE Richard Owens who did not play last year.
Owens (6-4, 273 Lbs) was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Vikings out of Louisville in 2004. He played in 39 games for the Vikings from 2004-06 before being waived and then signed by the St. Louis Rams on Sept. 12, 2007, where he appeared in 14 games. Owens was out of the NFL in 2008 after he was released by the Rams on Aug. 31.
In four seasons, Owens has 17 receptions for 141 yards and 1 TD. He will compete for a roster spot among a group of TE's where only Dustin Keller and TE/LS James Dearth have NFL experience.
