Jets waive four including QB Pizzotti

The Jets annouced on Sunday that they cur LB Craig Kobel, S Nate Ness, QB Chris Pizzotti and WR Huey Whittaker.

Kobel (South Florida/Lake Worth, FL/6-2/265) was signed by the Jets on June 9. In 2008, he played with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League. He was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles on Jan. 23, 2007 and released on Aug. 28. Kobel also played for Cologne in NFL Europe in 2007 and the AFL’s Utah Blaze in 2006.

Ness (6-1, 190/Arizona/Gardena, CA) signed with the Jets on Aug. 19. He was signed by Cleveland as an undrafted free agent on May 1, 2009, before being waived on July 15. In 25 games (19 starts) during two seasons at the University of Arizona, Ness totaled 107 tackles, seven interceptions for 166 yards in returns and two fumble recoveries.

Pizzotti (QB/6-5/225/Harvard/Reading, MA) was resigned by the Jets on Aug.21. He originally signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent May 1 and was waived Aug. 15. He was a two-time All-Ivy League QB from Harvard who finished his collegiate career with 5,675 yards passing, 37 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Whittaker (WR/6-2/220/South Florida/Hernando County, FL), who re-signed with the Jets on Aug. 16 after he was waived Aug. 11, originally signed with the team on January 23, 2009. He first signed with the Steelers in 2004 as an undrafted free agent. He spent the 2004 season on Tampa Bay’s practice squad after being released from the Steelers. He went to training camp with Jacksonville in 2005 before spending the summer with the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe. He has spent parts of the last three seasons with Tampa and Utah in the Arena Football League, logging 126 receptions for 1,541 yards and 32 touchdowns.

The team must make one more cut by Tuesday at 5PM to get to the mandated 75 players. The next wave of cuts are on Saturday after the Jets final pre-season game against Philadelphia on Thursday.
