Coach Herman Edwards announced during his afternoon press conference today that the Jets signed RB Ian Smart (CW Post) after Smart was invited to the Jets rookie three day minicamp for a tryout.

“Smart has done a nice job". Said Coach Edwards today. "I like the way he moves and runs. He gained a lot of yards in college. He has good vision, and is a well-built guy. He is a good football player. He is going to get an opportunity. He will have the chance to be the kickoff guy.” The "kickoff guy" meaning the void left by RB Chad Morton who was signed as a RFA by Washington. The Jets also signed two other rookie FAs that were invited to tryouts this weekend, DE Lance Gibson (Central Washington), and TE Gabe Reid (BYU).
