The New York Times is reporting that New York Jets defensive tackle Josh Evans has tested positive for marijuana use, according to three people familiar with the results of a test administered by the NFL.
Evans adamantly denied any violation Thursday and has appealed the results of the test.

If the appeal fails, NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue will determine Evans punishment, which could range from a short suspension to a lifetime ban. Evans has been suspended twice before -- for four games in 1999 and for the 2000 season -- for violations of the NFLs substance-abuse policy. The result of his appeal could come within days.
"I did not use or smoke marijuana," Evans said in a telephone interview with the New York Times on Thursday night. "I did not smoke, I did not use marijuana in no type of way."
Evans is tested up to 10 times a month because of his past transgressions, which occurred during his six seasons with the Tennessee Titans.
If Evans is suspended it would be a blow to the Jets defense which finally seemed solidified with the drafting of DT Dewayne Robertson in April. If Evans is suspended it will likely mean that Robertson will start immediately.
Evans, who played for the league minimum last season due to his checkered past, just recieved a $3MM option bonus in March that kicked in the final three years of his contract.
