On Sunday, June 22nd, thousands of people will take the field at the Meadowlands Sports Complex to help find a cure for lupus in the inaugural 5K Walk with Us to Cure Lupus walkathon benefiting the Alliance for Lupus Research.

The New York Jets are proud to be a sponsor of this Walk, and you have the opportunity to join the Jets, and become part of this exciting event.

Here is how you can join the Jets Team for this Walk: Go to the following link for a form to register for the Walk. http://www.newyorkjets.com/newsletters/lupus-registration.html Raise $100 or more for the walk by gathering donations from friends, family members, and co-workers. Bring your donations to the stadium at 9:00 AM Sunday, June 22nd, and pick up your official Jets Walk Team T-shirt (Jets season ticket holders must collect or make a $100 donation to the Alliance for Lupus Research to receive their Jets Team T-shirt). Join Woody Johnson, several Jets players, and thousands of other walkers at the 50-yard line at 10:00 AM for the 5K walk around the field. Hang out on the field after the Walk and enjoy the entertainment, refreshments, and activities that will be available to all the walkers.

The Jets are proud to support the Alliance for Lupus Research because it is one of this nations premier voluntary health organizations. Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which an individuals immune system mistakenly attacks the bodys own tissues. These attacks can cause life-threatening damage to major organs such as the kidneys, lungs, the heart, and central nervous system. Women are much more likely to get lupus than men, and lupus is the leading cause of death among women with autoimmune diseases who are in their childbearing years (15 -45).

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Walk will go directly toward funding research into the prevention, treatment, and cure of lupus.

Jets waive Viger: The Jets announced Tuesday they have waived OL David Viger.

Viger, a 6-4, 281-pound OL signed with the Jets as a rookie free agent on March 24, 1998 and was on the teams reserve/military list for four seasons (1998-2001). Viger completed his military requirements and was waived on September 1, 2002. He re-signed with the Jets on February 5, 2003 and was most recently a member of the 2003 Rhein Fire of NFLE.

Wire reports also report that the Jets have signed DE Ryan Wingrove. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Wingrove was in camp with the Atlanta Falcons in 2002 and played in NFL Europe for the Berlin Thunder earlier this year.
