With the beginning of training camp just three days away, four of the Jets six draft picks are still unsigned. Hereís the latest on the progress.
The Jets are three days away from the start of camp and still have all of their top draft picks unsigned. Question is, will Bradway and Co., be able to lock these players up before the deadline?
Terry Bradway was quoted yesterday saying he is close on all players with the exception of top pick DT Dewayne Robertson. All the picks below Robertson should be signed by Sunday when all players report. Robertson reportedly received a contract offer by the team Wednesday, but the two sides still remain far apart on a deal. Robertson's agent, Hadley Engelhard, is traveling to New York again today to meet face-to-face with Bradway and assistant GM Mike Tannenbaum. Bradway remains optimistic that an agreement can be reached by Sunday. Check back to Jets Insider.com often for all the latest on rookie signings.
In the spirit of their upcoming American Bowl trip to Tokyo, the Jets have signed Japanese WR Yoshinobu Imoto. Imoto will join the Jets for camp this week and will play for the team in the American Bowl on August 2nd. Imoto (6í-175 Lbs), was a Japanese standout football player at Ritsumeikan University and played for the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe this past season. Although Imoto has talent, he was signed mostly as a novelty. Donít expect him to be on the roster after the game in Japan.
Jets Insider.com has learned that the team has signed undrafted rookie FA G Lui Fuata from the University of Hawaii. Fuata (6í2Ē-313Lbs) was considered one of the best OG prospects in the nation until he tore the meniscus in his left knee last December 1st vs. Alabama. He is still not fully rehabilitated and will likely be a practice squad candidate this season. However, if he is able to come back from his injury, he could be a diamond in the rough for the Jets. Speaking of injured offensive linemen, Jets Insider.com has learned that backup center Dennis O'Sullivan will be out at least six regular-season games and possibly the season. O'Sullivan injured his elbow during the June OTAís and will soon be placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list.
