Monday Camp Update

July 28th, 2003

On a beautiful sun-drenched Monday, erratic QB play and nice execution from the defensive players highlighted Monday’s practice. The team is gearing up before they leave for Tokyo tomorrow morning.

All QB’s including Chad Pennington, Vinny Testaverde and Brooks Bollinger were off the mark today. Pennington was intercepted by LB Khary Campbell who stepped in front of a pass intended for Kevin Swayne over the middle. Overall between all three QB’s there were a lot of overthrown and incomplete passes.

DB Donnie Abraham again was very impressive and looks like he is gearing up for an All-Pro season. Abe defended every pass that was thrown in his direction including breaking up a sure TD pass from Testaverde to a streaking Kevin Swayne.

On offense, RB Curtis Martin looked good both running and catching the ball. He caught a nice swing pass from Pennington that he turned into a long TD. WR’s Jonathan Carter and Curtis Conway also had nice grabs. Rookie RB Ian Smart got a lot of reps on offense.

Coach Edwards commented today that he feels the team is much further along this year then they were last after the first week. He was very pleased with the play in the mock game on yesterday.

Rookie FA LB Mark Brown (Auburn) who had been having an excellent camp, strained his hamstring and will be out for at least 2 weeks. CB Andrew Davison (Knee) was back practicing today and looked good in coverage. DT Chester McGlockton has been working out twice a day since joining the team. Coach Edwards is happy with his progress and he hopes he will be ready to join regular practices when the team gets back from Japan. The team has a practice Monday afternoon at 3:30 then a short practice on Tuesday starting at 7:30 am before leaving for Tokyo late tomorrow morning.
