After a brief practice this morning the Jets left Training Camp for a date with the World Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the annual American Bowl game in Tokyo to kick off the 2003 season.

The Jets had a one hour walk through in shorts and tee shirts early this morning. The practice started at 7:30 am and lasted for around an hour. The highlight was when Coach Herman Edwards took the lone fan in the stands, NYC Policeman Don McHugh on the field and to the sideline to watch practice. “Now there’s a true fan,” Edwards said when he saw the man in the empty stands. Edwards then walked over, introduced himself told McHugh, “You can come on the sideline to watch practice.” The gesture obviously made McHugh’s day.

The team left Hofstra at 10AM and will arrive in Tokyo at approx 4 AM EST. The team is scheduled to have a short practice at the Tokyo Dome immediately following their arrival. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 5 AM EST Saturday Morning and will rebroadcast later that evening at 8 PM EST on ESPN.
