Jetlagged or not, the Jets returned to two a days this morning on a muggy Tuesday in Hempstead.
The Jets returned to practice today following a two day rest after their long journey back from Tokyo. The team practiced in shoulder pads and shorts and overall still looked a little groggy. DT Chester McGlockton joined the team in practice today for the first time. He participated in some drills and visually he looks like he has shed some pounds. The word is that ďThe GlockĒ is down 17 Lbs since he started with the team two weeks ago. He will not play this week against the Bengals but is expected to be ready for New Orleans next week.
During 7-7 passing drills today these were some of the highlights. WR Phil McGeoghan had a few nice catches including a deep over the shoulder catch from Testaverde. Curtis Conway again looked sharp. WR Kevin Swayne had a rough day, dropping passes on three occasions. WR Cecil Moore who was the rage during the first week of practice has been very quiet. The Coach mentioned that itís basically an even race between WR Albert Johnson and rookie RB Ian Smart for the kickoff return duties. They both had nice run backs against Tampa. Edwards did mention he likes Smartís toughness and was impressed with his blocking abilities in the backfield. Edwards also mentioned he has been pleased with the play of Victor Hobson and that the rookie is making excellent progress. Hobson had ten tackles and a sack against the Bucs. The Coach also mentioned that despite the loss on Saturday, he still feels the team is a head of where they were last year at this time.
DE Bryan Thomas sustained a sprained ankle in Saturdayís game and will likely sit this week against the Bengals. He didnít have a noticeable limp today while walking around practice. The Jets announced the termination of WR Yoshi Imotoís contract. Imoto did not return with the team and decided to stay home in Japan. He certainly will have fond memories of his NFL experience after he caught a 44 yard bomb from Brooks Bollinger in the 4th quarter of Saturdayís game. Itís a safe bet that he was the top highlight of every sports cast in Tokyo this past weekend.
