On a humid overcast day at Hofstra, here a few highlights from today’s practice.
Gray skies and a threat of rain overshadowed Friday’s practice. Today was the first time we got to see DT Chester McGlockton with a helmet on taking part of a few drills. It looked like he was working towards game shape although he did appear to get winded before many of the other players and when the one on ones started he quickly became reacquainted with his visor. Still a good sign that he is becoming more active.
There were some sloppy and frustrating moments for RB Raymonn Adams as he dropped a pass and fumbled the ball during some 7 on 7 drills. His own disgust was evident as he slammed the ball to the turf after each misstep.
It seemed to be a morning of miscues as both QB’s Vinny Testeverde and Chad Pennington had some overthrows. Vinny tossed one so hard it slammed against the mock scoreboard with a pretty loud clatter.
WR Kevin Swayne looked good pulling in some short and long passes. He made a nice catch over the middle in some traffic.
Probably the best catch of the day was a leaping grab by rookie TE Gabe Reid. He caught a high floating ball and pulled it in for an impressive hook up with QB Brooks Bollinger. Bollinger was picked off later on in the morning session by CB Ray Mickens.
Lastly it still seems as though there is no clear place kicker for the team as Doug Brien and Danny Kight took turns all morning with the kicking duties.
DE Bryan Thomas (ankle), LB Mark Brown (hammy), DT Chester McGlockton (conditioning) and WR Cecil Moore (knee) are out for Saturday’s game.
