In a rain that resembled a tropical monsoon, the Jets beat the Cincinnati Bengals 28-13 in pre-season football on Sunday. A driving rain was the main highlight of the Jets-Bengals matchup on Sunday. The clouds opened shortly after kickoff and drove most fans to the overhangs. Similar to last week’s game against Tampa, most of the Jets highlights came at the very start and the very end of the game. Not similar to last week though was the end result. The Jets starting offense took their opening drive 39 yards on nine plays for a TD. The drive was highlighted by a pretty 21 yard Chad Pennington pass to WR Santana Moss. Three plays later RB Lamont Jordan took it in for the score. Pennington ended the game 3-8 for 34 yards. RB Curtis Martin was used sparingly in the foul weather. CuMart lined up for a few plays but never touched the ball. The buzz after the game was the new Giants Stadium FieldTurf and how well it held up in the rain.

The Jets highlights after their first touchdown were few until the end of the fourth quarter. In fact, while leading by a TD late in the game the Bengals drove past midfield and it looked like the game might go into overtime. The Jets stopped the rally and killed Cincy’s chances for a tie when 3rd string defensive backs Wes Bautovich and Troy Grant intercepted rookie QB Carson Palmer on consecutive posessions and ran both INT’s back for scores.

The team has tomorrow off and then goes back to two-a-days on Tuesday morning. They are home again next Saturday night to face the Saints in their third pre-season game.
