Jets change season ticket waiting list fee policy

In response to the worst NFL public relations blunder since Redskinsí owner Dan Snyder charged fans to watch training camp practices, the Jets succumbed to intense negative fan and media pressure and modified their new season ticket waiting list fee. In response to the worst NFL public relations blunder since Redskinsí owner Dan Snyder charged fans to watch training camp practices, the Jets succumbed to intense negative fan and media pressure and modified their new season ticket waiting list fee.

This was the message to Jets fans today by team President, Jay Cross on NY Jets.com:

"New York Jets fans are loyal and enthusiastic, and we have a responsibility to them.

When we designed our new waitlist policy, our goal was to improve the experience and accelerate waitlist members movement to the top Ė and we also said that we would continually review it. After evaluating the feedback from our fans, we realize a change is in order: the $50 waitlist fee will be credited against the eventual purchase of season tickets. Making the policy change is the right thing to do.

We do want our fans to understand clearly why we started a new policy: our intention was, and is, to get season tickets to our ardent fans as soon as possible.

Our fans are our first priority and we look forward to another great season."

A huge victory for NY Jets fans nationwide. Kudos to the Jets and Jay Cross (who in one week has been the most cursed sports figure in NY since Pat Riley left the Knicks for Miami) for admitting their mistake and making it right. The Jets have proved once and again that they are a first class organization and truly do care about their fans.

The only problem now is that with this new policy, we would assume that most on the list will send in their money. Therefore, if you sent in your cash thinking you are going to move up several thousand spots, it probably isnít happening. Oh wellÖas they say, you canít have your cake and eat it too.

Jets/Giants Game Notes: Coach Edwards indicated that he is going to play his starters well into the third quarter. Look for QB Vinny Testaverde to finally get some work and play with the first team in the 3rd quarter as well.

Jets C Kevin Mawae (tweaked knee) didnít practice again on Thursday as a precaution and will be a game time decision by the Coach to play on Saturday. Our guess is that Edwards will not take a chance and sit him. If Mawae doesnít start, backup C JP Machado will. Look for G Jonathan Goodwin to also get some reps in at center. Rookie S Derek Pagel (ankle) is out this week as is LB Marvin Jones. LB Kelvin Moses makes his first start as an NFL player in Jonesí absence. The Jets plan to play DT Chester McGlockton, who is down over 30 lbs since signing a month ago, at least 12-15 plays with the starters.

The Jets have won the last seven pre-season meetings with the Giants and last year shellacked Big Blue 28-7. The two teams match up in the regular season with the Jets as the home team on Sunday November 2. The first cutdowns where each team must get down to 65 players is on Tuesday. The final cuts are on Sunday August 31 where the team must get down to itís final roster number of 53 players. The Jets roster now stands at 80 players.
