The Jets announced thier first set of final cuts by releasing 10 players this afternoon.
- The Jets announced today they have made an inital ten cuts Saturday by waiving running back Raymonn Adams, quarterbacks Marquel Blackwell and Todd Husak, cornerback Troy Grant, wide receivers Phil McGeoghan and Carlos Rosado, safety Ralph Parent, defensive tackle Salem Simon and offensive tackles Chris Smith and Michael Thompson.
The only surprise cuts here are McGeoghan, who looked like he was close to getting a roster spot and Smith, who has nice size and was a Jets project after converting from TE last season. He just didn't make enough progress though to make the team. Adams, Grant and Parent are practice squad cndidates if they get through waivers.
The Jets’ active roster currently stands at 62 players. The Club must reduce its roster to 53 to open the regular season by Sunday at 4:00 p.m. The Jets travel to Washington to play the Redskins in the NFL Season Opener on Thursday, September 4 at 9:00 p.m.
