A season already full of doom and gloom just got gloomier. Gloomier or more gloomy? Regardless, Sam Darnold will miss at least this week’s game against the Cardinals. Joe Flacco will get the start in Darnold’s absence and Mike White will likely serve as the backup.

Adam Gase wouldn’t disclose what grade strain Darnold has in his AC joint, but said, “he’s in a lot of pain.” Gase said “it would be difficult” for Darnold to practice and classified him as “week-to-week.”

Disgruntled fans would rather see James Morgan, the team’s fourth-round draft pick, get the start but he is nowhere near ready to start an NFL game. Especially not on this team.

Le’Veon Bell is practicing this week, he is eligible to come off IR before the Cardinals game if he doesn’t have any setbacks. The news with Denzel Mims is not as promising. Mims is still working on simply running and cutting. Gase said Mims continues, “to feel something,” whenever he tries to open things up. All that translates to Mims missing another couple of weeks at least.

Breshad Perriman, Bless Austin, Jordan Jenkins and Mekhi Becton were all held out of practice as well. Ashtyn Davis and Chris Hogan were limited. With Becton, Gase said he simply doesn’t have the strength in his shoulder to be able to practice, which obviously isn’t a great sign for Sunday.

With the Jets sitting at 0-4, dealing with all these injuries, it’s difficult to envision them avoiding 0-5.
