Chiefs, Jets Dick Around Over Picks

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that talks have stalled between the Chiefs and Jets regarding the potential relocation of coach Herman Edwards to K.C.

Per Mort, the Jets wants a fourth-round and a fifth-round pick for Edwards, but the Chiefs are reluctant to send the picks.

The perception around the league, Mortensen says, is that Chiefs G.M. Carl Peterson believes Edwards "is no longer welcomed in New York by Jets owner Woody Johnson, who is reportedly tired over Edwards' status."

One of our league sources that Peterson's stance is "f--king stupid."

"Typical Peterson," the source said, "making sh-t out of nothing." The source thinks that a four and a five is meaningless consideration to give up in order to get a coach that is under contract with another team.

As to concerns expressed by league sources to Mortensen that Peterson could lose Edwards to someone else if he ultimately is fired by the Jets, our reaction is this -- if someone else really wants Edwards now, all they need to do is come up with a four and a five. All due respect to Herm and his 4-12 record, but we suspect Woody Johnson's phone has been ringing (except for those prank calls from kids who like to say the words "Woody" and "Johnson" in the same breath).

Besides, Edwards is unlikely to hit the coaching carousel if fired by the Jets. Our guess is that he already has terms worked out with the Chiefs, and that he'd make a bee line to Kansas City if/when he is fired by the Jets.

If we can't even get a 4 and a 5, we need to walk away completely.

The amazing thing is not that Peterson is balking at a 4 and a 5, but that that is what the Jets are willing to take.

    Look at the Bright Side...

This stall may have saved Bradway from himself (as the Redsox were saved by not trading away Manny and bringing in ARod). If Bradway can't get a first day pick for Herm like EVERY team that has traded away a HC has gotten, then he should back out. If he goes ahead with it, he should be fired for dereliction of duty and mental processes unbecoming to the team.

Lets hope Bradway/Woody don't give in. We have what they want and we are in no rush! Let them make the next move.

I think things have gone to far. Herman can not come back now so take what you can and get him out of here. There are only 3 weeks to the senior bowl and a coaching staff has to be in place by then. And if it is a rookie coach 3 weeks might be cutting it close. I hate the idea of a 4-5 but get herm out and get KC used to 13-10 games and playing for fg at the opponent 2 yard line

I don't understand this. Herm is under contract. He said a week ago he is not going anywhere. Tell Peterson to f'off and tell Herm to get back to work and STFU about an increase/extention and to keep things "in the family' like he is so fond of telling players to do. Where is all of this honor and integrity that Herm is supposed to be all about?

This is EXACTLY what Bradway should be saying! If not him, then Woody!

Better still, take a page out of Herm's book of "integrity" - tell it to him exactly that through the media.

    AGREED

    That's a Joke in it's own right

If Woody really wants to play hardball {AND I WOULD, cause Peterson is}, now he'll turn around and tell Peterson ...

Okay pal, you wanna be slick, now a 4 & 5 if off the table ... now it's a 3 & 4, and if you don't accept that by midnite, tomorrow it will be a 2 & 3 ... and believe me, I'll let Herm sit at home for two years before I lower the price
