College football's player of the week ... from Rutgers?

Is it possible that the D1 player of the week, on opening week, will be a player from Rutgers University?

Not only is it possible, but he'd get my vote ... and I'm no Rutgers homer

The numbers speak for themselves, the kid had a monster game, and his team won a nail-biter so they needed his monster effort

    RB RAY RICE
    =========

    Car - 31
    Yds - 201
    YPC - 6.5
    TD's - 3
    1st Downs - 12

There were some great individual performances on opening week, but for my money Ray Rice was the D1 POTW

    That would be just awesome.

Sadly, I think they'll probably give it to Steve Slaton though.

Don't be so sure, RJF ... RR's performance is getting major national attention ... ESPN {Sportscenter} did a nice segment this morning on Rice Rice's monster effort ... that puts him right in the running for D1 POTW

Did you see the segment ESPN did this morning?

    It was a nice piece

Let's put it this way, if anyone was unaware of Ray Rice's effort yesterday, they're fully aware of it now

I can't get my hopes up for something like that. RU getting THAT kind of attention after the win we had yesterday would be more than enough icing on the cake.

The entire media seems to be on Slaton's jock the past few weeks, and I think they'll probably give it to him after a game like that.

Personally, I think that kick returner from Georgia should get it. Being able to return ANOTHER kick back after screwing up as bad as he did was nothing short of awesome, and hilarious as well.

    And BTW..........

The radio people (one of them forget which) on espn gameday gave Rice his choice for player of the week (he gave my boy Stewart honorable mention)

I hope Rice gets it. We really need some big time college football here in the northeast. There's BC and Syracuse, and that's really it. It's good to see some of the east coast 1AA teams playing well and getting to the 1AA playoffs, but it would be fun to have a BCS team from this area.
