Pro Bowl: The Free Safeties and Kerry Rhodes chances.

Just looked on the FS Ballet. While Rhodes may not get much recognition as of yet, I was curious to see how he compares to the "big name" guys that are well known names and are prone to get fan votes. These are the stats given on the ballet.

    Ed Reed - Baltimore

    2 INT . 39 Tackles . 4 Pass Deflects . 0 sacks

    D. Grant - Jacksonville

    2 INT . 40 Tackles . 7 Pass Deflects . 0 sacks

    John Lynch - Denver

    0 INT . 49 Tackles . 4 Pass Deflects . 0 sacks

    R. Hill - Miami

    2 INT . 58 Tackles . 7 Pass Deflects . 0 sacks

    M. Williams - Cincinnati

    3 INT . 68 Tackles . 11 Pass Deflects . 0 sacks

    Kerry Rhodes - NYJ

    3 INT . 80 Tackles . 9 Pass Deflects . 4 sacks

    Analysis

I am surprised to say that the many people that go through these things and just look at the stats given would have to vote for Rhodes. He is clearly above everyone, with the only close competition stat-wise coming from Cincinnati's Williams. He has a legit shot.

Sacks are not given on the ballet. But I am confident Rhodes would lead in that category as well.

    Rhodes Won't Get In...

That's my gut feeling. And it will only be because he's a Jet. No other reason. I hope I'm wrong because he's having the best year out of all of them.

But last year Vilma led the universe in tackles and didn't get in until someone got hurt.

It's going to be BS if Lynch makes it in over him, it'll probably happen but Lynch is going to make it in because he is who he is.

That kid Jones on the Browns has had a good year, he's cooled off a little bit but he was red hot to start off the season.

If I had to take my pick, I'd say Reed and Rhodes in the AFC, but it'll probably be Lynch and Reed, which will be BS, as Rhodes is probably the best FS in the AFC right now. Lynch and Reed aren't the MVP of their defenses this year, and there's no question that Rhodes is our MVP right now.

If I am not mistaken, he is leading the league in his position with 4 sacks so far.

Exactly. The first two players that came to mind for me were to look at Lynch and Reed. Rhodes is well ahead of Lynch, and is playing better than Reed.

Rhodes has been the keystone of our D, and is everywhere on the field. Making sure-tackles and causing turnovers, creating matchup problems. Name it, he's done it and he's done it consitently. He is no doubt the best FS in the AFC right now, and maybe even the entire league. That's how well he's playing this year, and it's pretty much indesputable.

He probably is. I would think that he's leading in forced fumble as well.

I usually don't vote for the Pro Bowl, but this year I'm voting as often as allowed because I don't wanna see Kerry Rhodes get hosed .. HE DESERVES IT .. he's had an All-Pro season in every conceivable way

This kid has turned into an IMPACT SAFETY

And it should be noted that he's a terrific tackler .. he's turned himself into a terrific tackler .. that was the one knock on Rhodes in the draft, everyone knew he had an impressive size/speed ratio and could cover, but they said he needs to be more physical, and he's obviously worked VERY HARD on his Game, turning his preceived weakness into a strength

I'm really proud of this kid .. I know this didn't JUST HAPPEN .. I know he really takes pride in his Game and worked very hard to reach this level, the level of IMPACT SAFETY, so I'll do my part to see him rewarded for it with a trip to Hawaii

I think he also has more sacks than any NFL safety.

I agree 100%, if you're a veteran big name player and have a 'GOOD' year you will make it, but if you're a young 3rd rounder second year player having a 'GREAT' year you won't get in.

    Hey, it's still early.

If the Jets make a playoff push, get some nationally televised games, and Rhodes is talked about as much as he was talked about in yesterday's game - he will get a lot more recognition.

It's hard to be underrated for long in NY...

Sadly, I would agree. Pro-Bowl is like a popularity contest, names win almost every time.

Leads in almost every category, and has 4 sacks to the competition's 0. Yeah, he doesn't deserve it. If he stays at this level and doesn't make it there should be a major outcry.
