"Paper Jet", Harry Hurt III, New York Times Article and Related Video!!!

Video (over eight minutes long but worth it) is almost bottom left of the page. Enjoy because I did!!!

    http://www.nytimes.com/pages/business/index.html

Each day we track stories pertaining to our organization both in print and the electronic media world, and we wanted to share the tremendous exposure we recently gained in the business section of The New York Times and its' website. Harry Hurt III, a journalist, presented an idea to Mr. Johnson on paying tribute to George Plimpton, an author who staked his claim to fame through participatory journalism and his book "Paper Lion." Hurt wanted to recreate Plimpton's story by authoring "Paper Jet" and running three plays as the team's quarterback at a practice.

Through our collaborative efforts and internal coordination we paved the way for Mr. Hurt to express in words, the behind-the-scenes life of a professional football player, and we also gave him a genuine thrill of a lifetime. The 54-year-old Hurt (without getting hit) captured the essence of what players endure on a daily basis, both on and off the field, and praised their hard work.

Harry did say he just wanted to do whatever he could to help the team prepare and win. Though he wasn't signed to a contract, he offered readers and fans a first-person account of just how tough it is in the NFL, and explained how it's a lot harder than it looks.

The story ran on November 18.

He always seems that way at first. I remember meeting him once and he wasn't so friendly and I guess it was because he was with some hot chick. After he said goodbye to her, he came back over and signed an autograph for me and we chatted some too.

For Hunt it was a dream come true and what he probably enjoyed more was being inside the huddle with the players whereas for us fans we would love the whole idea of what Hunt did.

Thanks for the link. It is cool video and was nice of the Jets to allow Harry Hurt III to do this. I remember seeing Paper Lion around the same time the Jets signed Joe Willie and I became a Jets fan.

Yes, I'm old enough to remember the George Plimpton story and that's where Hurt got the idea.

I was at practice the day he was there. I was talking to Ellis in the lockerrroom and he asked me who the old guy dressed up as a QB was.

I said I didn't know but I overheard him saying you were big and ugly.

I wish i could be a defensive end at a colts practice so i can take Manning out on a blind side hit. But that is something i would love to do is q.b a JETS practice. Love to be in a 2 min drill

Yeah but he might have one of those RED jerseys (or wjatever color they use) on which indicates he can't be hit.
