Jets Wild Card scenario is very simple now

    WILD CARD
    1. Jets Win Out and finish at 10-6
    2. Jaguars lose one more game, this week Vs NE or next week Vs KC

That's it, its that simple .. if the Jags lose one more game, preferably this Sunday Vs NE, the Jets control their own destiny .. win out to 10-6 and the Jets are in the playoffs

It doesn't matter what happens with anyone else .. the Cinci Vs Denver Game next week means nothing to us .. its all about the Jets running the table to 10-6 and the Jags losing one more game, Vs NE or KC

I thought we needed Cincy or Denver to lose one more as well.

Do we have the tiebreaker over BOTH of those teams if the Jets, Cincy and Denver all end up 10-6?

We have more outs than that, but yes, that is the most simple scenerio.

That said, we will only need 1 of 3 possible game scenerios to go our way Week 17 to make the playoffs if Jax beat NE.

NE lose @ TEN (for division)
    or
JAX lose @ KC (for WC)
    or
If CIN beats DEN - PIT win @ CIN
If DEN beats CIN - SF win @ DEN

For insurance sake - we need to root for CIN to beat DEN next week becasue I think PIT @ CIN is much more favorble scenerio in Week 17 as our third out.

Cincy and Denver play each other in Week 16.

Cincy and Denver play each other next week, so someone will lose - a tie is fine for us as well.

Cinci & Den CANNOT finish 10-6 because they play one another next week .. the loser can finish no better than 9-7 .. and the same is true of Jacksonville if they lose to the Pats or KC

We hold no tie-breakers. Cincy and Denver cancel each other out next week.

A tie would be ideal actually. Knocks both teams behind us if we win out.

Anyone still think I'm crazy that a 9-7 team may make it this year?

It's still possible. But highly unlikely.

Also, if that did happen, I think we'd have to lose a game, so that would mean we were out - so I hope that doesn't happen.

That is the piece of the puzzle I was missing. Thanks. Great news.

    Correction:

I don't wanna say its impossible for a team to get in at 9-7, but its impossible for the Jets to get in at 9-7

That much is clear .. the Jets need 10 or their out

    Hopefully, those stars keep aligning.

How many of you are having a hard time shaking off our history? Anyone else scared to admit that wouldn't be surprised if the Pats beat the Jags and then the Jets lose to the Dolphins?!?! Sorry, I'm sorry, I'm trying hard to change my ways. Childhood indoctrination is tough to overcome.

Anyone remember the stars aligning perfectly for the Jets about 15 years ago, I think it was a Bruce Coslet/Boomer Esiason team. 5 different things had to happen for the Jets to have a shot at the playoffs and they all did. All we had to do was beat the Oilers and we were in. We got our asses handed to us, Boomer was sacked 12 times or something, I think it was 31-0.

Ok. I'm back. I'm off the ledge. This is the new Jets and Mangini will have these guys prepared and we will win out. It's hard to type when you're curled up sucking your thumb, sorry for any misspellings.

that's not necessarily true, as Ikeyman3 pointed out in another thread:

Jax would beat NE and lose to KC-AFC Record-6-6 Div record-2-4
KC would beat OAK and JAX-AFC Record-5-7 Div 4-2
Titans would beat Buffalo and NE- AFC Record-6-6 Div record 4-2
Steelers would beat Baltimore and Cincy- AFC Record-6-6 Div record 4-2
Jets would split giving them a AFC record of 6-6 and a div record of 4-2 or 3-3

Denver would be eliminated by KC due to division record, Pit would be eliminated by Cin due to common opponents, JAX would be eliminated by TEN due to divisional record.

That leaves the Chiefs, Bengals, Titans and Jets

KC would be eliminated due to their AFC record
The Bengals would get in due to their AFC record

This leaves Titans and Jets competing for the 6th and final spot, and due to head to head, Jets would get in. So this is a scenario where the 9-7 Jets get in the playoffs, and I guess there could be others (such as possibly if buffalo is another 9-7 team. getting in over buffalo would depend though on how the jets get to the 9-7--would need the loss to have been against oak, not miami, to have better div. record than buffalo)
