Exclamation Jets vs Raiders (2006) = USA Hockey vs Finland (1980)

    U.S. vs. Finland

The match against the Soviet team was very emotional and so memorable that many in the United States either don't recall or are unaware that the victory did not win the US team the gold medal. However, the magnitude of the game and shocking result, especially to a nation where hockey had not become big yet, made it feel like a championship victory. However, the U.S. still had to beat Finland in order to clinch the gold medal. Had the Americans lost and the Soviets won, the U.S.S.R. would have won the gold medal. The U.S. was not even guaranteed to win a bronze medal. Once again, coach Herb Brooks skated a hard practice the day before the game, determined to remind his team that no medal had been clinched.

Coming into the dressing room before the game, Brooks turned to his players, looked at them and said, "If you lose this game, you'll take it to your ****ing graves." He then paused, took a few steps, turned again, said, "Your ****ing graves," and walked out.

    Dear Jets:

Don't **** up a wonderful season by blowing this game.

    Get the job DONE!

    USA Vs Finland

Considering the prior win at Miami to setup this opportunity to make the playoffs, that's a Great example TJW

Team USA had to win that game to make their upset of Russia stick, to make it last, to maximize the impact of that win .. and the same is true this week, Jets MUST WIN to validate their season and make the win at Miami really stick

think i read somewhere years ago that after the u.s.a. team beat russia
then had to play another team and during the half a russian player who
didn't speak english suggested the players take oxygen on the beach to help
them out (no idea if this is true).

to me, to come all this way to lose this game would be one of the most devestating dissapointments in Jets history.

    and that is saying something.

Great analogy. They have to win. No excuses. Lay it all on the line and whup the Raiders.

Win and the 2006 New York Jets, a team that wasn't supposed to win more than 5 games this year, is in the PLAYOFFS with a chance for the Super Bowl.

    Get that **** done!!

"Your ****ing graves," and walked out.

This should be in the Jets locker room---posted prominently.

1980 USA Hockey Gold Medal winners = 2006 NY Jets wild card hopefuls.

    Quite a stretch.

Not a stretch. Neither were/are given an outside shot of winning anything.

The hockey team was even a bigger stretch...by a long shot.

The Jets haven't won anything yet.

Plus - even if the Jets go on to win the SB it will pale in comparison to the 1980 USA hockey team. It's not even in the same ballpark.

So understanding analogies is not your strong suit, huh?
