    OT: The Bertha Butt Boogie!

...holy crap I have not heard this song in over 30 years, I caught it on XM (The Groove ch. 64) last night driving home. The Jimmy Castor Bunch made this and other funkified tunes famous in the '70s.

When Bertha got movin' her hips were hummin' in the wind,
The ground started shakin' - no grass grew where she'd been!
The music was poppin', the crowd had formed a ring,
Her sisters yelled, "Boogie, Bertha, do your thing!".

bomp, bomp, buh buh bomp, buh bomp, bomp, bomp buh buh bomp!

someone tell me they remember this tune

lol...I guess this is somewhat dumpable, I'm holding out hope that Hammer or Bit (well known funksters) have some idea of what I am talking about.

FF2, I can't believe you're still pissed you thread got dumped (it really wasn't an in depth analysis just a bash of the Jets)

I merely had the audacity to question the character of a Jets acquisition.

But I will admit, it was nowhere as in-depth as "The Bertha Butt Boogie"

I just took it as an attempt to rile the masses...Bertha, on the other hand, is legendary.

I went alookin' for the song on Yahoo! Unlimited(like iTunes, but subscription based), but couldn't find it.

I imagine Cave Man and Hey Leroy are similar. Cave Man even mentions a "Bertha".

Troglodyte(Cave Man) is probably the first song that made me wish I had an Afro and a pair of flared, bell bottom pants to accentuate my newly acquired, funky dance moves.

I was listening to Jeff Beck, Pink Floyd, Return to Forever during that era but certain songs just made an impression, Jimmy Castor had some funk going on back then. That was one of the cool things about that era - all kinds of really good music with talented performers around, you could fall into any genre and find something to like.

I remember using the slang back in the day to describe a girl with a big ___, Bertha Butt, but I never knew it was an actual song

    I'm crushed

The first time I hear this song was when we were off for football camp as a HS Soph (a week of quadruple sessions in the mountains away from home ) it was coming out of the tent of a bad ass senior all week. I remember it almost as much as working my ass off that week.

I do. Sold a lot of copies out King Karol Records in Flushing when I worked there. My older brother was comptroller for TK Records in Florida at the time (Jimmy's label.)
