Pennington Impressing Players In Miami With The Ingredients Of His Success

In his first Dolphins practice, quarterback Chad Pennington displayed many of the qualities the team expects from him this season: poise, leadership, decisiveness and accuracy.

But in two hours, Pennington left quite an impression.

''If you ask every guy that passes by right now what we see out of Chad,'' cornerback André Goodman said, ``[it's that the] ball comes out on time. Receivers turned their heads, and it almost hit them in the face a couple of times. It's amazing to see that on Day 1.

``[It's] instinct of the game. That's what he brings to us, and today was kind of evident. Not to disrespect the other guys that were in there, but Chad brings a certain presence. Everybody had a little swagger on the other side of the ball, and it was good to see.''

Added receiver Derek Hagan: ``He brings that veteran leadership and you can definitely see it in the huddle. We've been waiting for that and looking for that.''

Pennington looked confident in the pocket, anticipated receivers' routes and released the ball quickly. Receiver Ernest Wilford said Pennington threw with a ''lot of velocity'' and tight end Anthony Fasano -- who caught two passes on Pennington's first series -- said, ``He's got great touch. When you throw the ball like that, you need to be accurate and I think that is why he is so successful.''

I wish Chad nothing but the best aside from playing agaist the Jets. Always underappreciated here, but I think with that line he is in for a rough time this year.

    Tuna fish has off-the-charts intangibles.

You just gotta laugh when any player/fan ever refers to Pennington as being a "successful" QB.

    God...

There is no doubt in my mind that WITH Pennington the DOLPHINS are a better team.

This is very true. But, will the Dolphins gained "goodness" continue into the regular season? I say, uh, no!!

How is the dolphins line that bad.

Jake Long is a stud LT.
Samson Satelie was almost a pro bowler as a rookie.
    Justin Smiley is good.
Vernon Carey is a good right tackle(awful left tackle).
and they have a rookie Thomas who has been surprising everyone with hsi play.

I dont understand why everyone thinks Chad will get killed behind this line. They are actually pretty good.

Here is my concern opening day.

Jets have a lot of new additions. Both offense and defense.

Miami will have a good running game.

Chad is a master at slowing the game down.

    Run , run, play action.

Our aggressive D could get caught.

Miami will do their best to keep the Jets O off the field.

Vinatge Parcells team:Shorten the game, keep it close. Win a close one.

Because you're assuming Long is a stud. He hasn't played a down in the regular season. Different ball game. Then you're bringing up another rookie who is "surprising."

They don't have the worst line in the NFL. But they aren't good. Chad has a slow release so he needs an excellent line.

Yes, and if you watched the Dolphins preseason game, Ricky is back.

He will be the one teams are worrying about more than Ronnie Brown.

you must be delusional. Ronnie Brown is a stud. Ricky won't make it to week 8

If I were a betting man, I would not put my money on Pennington. The likelihood of him getting injured is fairly high. And as we have seen here, he can be very good at times, but the fact is that he has a ceiling. And the Jets kept bumping their heads on it. I don't see anything that would change that in Miami.

The Phins have a great running game no doubt

But as much as you fight it Chad DOES NOT HELP the run situation. More men in the box, bigger blitzes, etc.

he had one sack against him....lets try not to extrapolate that too much.

Btw, who has the advantage...our defense b/c they know Penny's tendancies or the Dolfins because of what Penny knows about our team?
