Jets bring in Feely et al for workout

    per rotowrold.com

The Jets worked out free agent Ks Jay Feely, Dave Rayner, and Aaron Elling on Monday morning.

The club is concerned with Mike Nugent, who hurt his thigh Sunday and has never been an Eric Mangini favorite. They haven't signed a replacement yet.

As long as he's healthy, I have no problem with Nugent. He's not an elite kicker but he's not bad either. He never failed us in a high pressure situation.

    Where's Doug Brien?

Smart move. You can't assume Nugent will be ok. This game may very well come down to a last second FG attempt.

This is OUR YEAR! Just like teams have done in the past to our Jets, the tables are now turned.
1- Brett Favre becomes available, talking heads say NO WAY he goes to Jets!
Brett gets introduced as the next QB for the NY JETS.
2- Nugent gets hurt, can't kick a FG
    Brett passes on 4th & 13- TD! 6 points instead of 3
3- Chad shreds the D (all of us SOJ lifers are ready to puke in our mouths)
Revis our future pro bowl 1st rounder makes spectacular pick
4- Our nemesis Tom Brady goes down for the season
Right before our matchup in the Meadowlands
5- Jets bring in new kicker
Kicks 50 yarder to lead Jets to 17-14 victory over the Pats with no time
left on clock! (teams always kick long Fgs against us)
God does love Jet fans! LOL!

Feeley was the first guy I thought of when Nuge got hurt. Sign this guy he was good for the phins last year, they only got rid of him because they felt he was a distraction.

Agree 100%. This guy is a pretty good kicker and showed it last year by going 21/23. Does anyone know his leg strength on kickoffs?

He has a very strong leg if I remember correctly and I can also only remember one bad game he had, it was with the giants in Seattle he missed like 3 fgs or so. So yeah only 3fgs a clear upgrade over the Nuge.

Nugent's injury added exactly 0 points to our final score.

Without the injury, we kick a field goal there - but he also likely hits the earlier FG attempt. Its the same 6 points either way.

Hes been a slow starter then gets on a roll . Like Paulie said he has hit the clutch field goals.

Feely has a very strong leg BUT and this is a big but, he lacks the confidence in pressure situations to get it done.

my buddy from work, from centerville, ohio and a good friend of mike nugent's little brother and nugent, said in a text message and I quote "nugent sucks, he faked that injury because it was such a bull@#$# miss"

Now, shot in the dark, either my buddy knows something or he just knows how nugent is from growing up with him over the past 20 years...probably nothing, but I thought it was an interesting take from a good friend of the Nugent family

come on, now -- without the injury, Nugent hits the field goal and it's 10-0. Miami doesn't get the ball back with momentum to march down the field for the tying score.

that missed kick was probably the difference between a beatdown and a game that came down the last play.

all that being said (and moot point aside), i'm 100% in favor if signing Feely and keeping him around all season in case Nugent can't recover.

A little less than Nugent. He had one fewer TB than Nugent, his average was a little less than Nugents, but close enough and had 2 returned for TD's to Nugents 1.

Team G KO Avg TB Ret Avg RetTD

    St. Louis Rams 16 65 64.2 5 58 27.2 2

    Detroit Lions 16 81 66.1 13 65 26.9 2

    Miami Dolphins 16 60 63.0 8 49 26.4 2

    New York Jets 16 60 64.9 9 50 25.2 1
