Chris Canty Cowboy DE, will be the Jets primary target, in next years Free Agency period. I am very pessemistic on how this Ellis thing will unwind. Canty is a four year pro, and will command big bucks.
Ellis and Kevin Faulk must be boyz.
back on topic, my brother is a huge Cowboys fan and he says Canty has been a major disappointment this year. idk, i watch a lot of Dallas games with him, but i don't really focus on what the players are doing the way i would during Jets games.
just thought it was worth mentioning. maybe FattyVM or another Dallas fan can chime on the subject.
dallas players = over-rated
I think Canty is a bit overrated myself. Considering how much money we gave Kenyon Coleman, who really is a borderline starter, to come here Id hate to think of how much we would need to give Canty.
Im not worried about Ellis becuase of this run in. He has been in the league so many years without incident I cant imagine this being much of a distraction or a problem. Im worried about Ellis because he is older. I was worried before the year and then he played fantastic for about half the season, but these last few weeks he hasn't had the same impact. I dont really care much about next year right now, but Id think the smart thing to do is keep Shaun one more year and draft someone to play DE rather than signing a guy like Canty, who 1 or 2 years from now will have everyone saying that he is not worth the money.
Jason , Thank you for your post. I haven't seen Canty play, your strategy is correct, let's hope Tyson Jackson is available in the draft. Jets may be a little reactionary with Ellis, and cut all ties, we will see how it plays out. Under any circumstances Canty is an option, but as you have pointed out a bad option.
Jets won't cut Ellis, I'm near-positive of that.
I do think they'll invest in a better backup then Devito or Mosley or whoever else they decide to throw out there in the case of a suspension though.
Thanks for the floor Dirt. Before we tagged him this off season, here's what I said about him last year. Thread 1 (pg. 2) Thread 2. Those sentiments really haven't changed, I can't say that he's better than Ratliff anymore after the monster year HE's been pulling, but I can say without Canty, our defense would be vastly different (for the worse.) He's not as flashy as the other guys which makes him undervalued in the eyes of fans who don't key in on the line, or the flow of a play. He collapses the pocket, flushes the quarterback AND is solid at the run game, which is pretty much all you should really ask for out of a 3-4 lineman. As a comparison, if you look at my threads about Kenyon, my stance on him was he pretty much possessed only the last attribute.
His Stats show that he's performing as well as he did last year, which is to say pretty good knowing that the only drop off in tackles is directly correlated to how much Zach Thomas and Bradie James have been asked to change their games.
In comparison to Coleman ... well, we did that in a thread here.. I still think you guys overpayed quite a bit for Coleman, he was pretty much a JAG for us that we used as a specialist, and said as much then.

First off pot is scientifically proven to be non-addictive.
Don't call pot a drug. It may be specified in some stupid archaic law as a drug, but in reality if you call pot a drug you should call beer a drug too.
You can't group pot smokers with crack addicts.
Smoking pot leads to other things... Like a bag of chips.
I'm not condoning pro athletes smoking pot, but its not exactly a performance enhancing substance. Ellis needs to save his stash for the offseason.
