NY POST: CC Sabathia Picks Yankees

    WOOOOOOO!

    http://www.nypost.com/seven/12102008...eal_143481.htm

LAS VEGAS CC Sabathia is not going to play on the West Coast. He is not going to play in the National League. CC Sabathia is going to be a Yankee, The Post has learned exclusively.

After three straight days of face-to-face meetings between GM Brian Cashman and Sabathia, the big lefty decided he wants to spend the next six years of his career as a Yankee. The decision came late last night after Cashman flew to see Sabathia at his home in San Francisco. By the time the meeting was concluded, Sabathia had informed the Yankees that he had made his decision to call New York his baseball home, the Post has learned.

There are still minor hurdles to finalize, notably that Sabathia must pass a physical. But after so much belief that Sabathia was stalling because he wanted to avoid New York, he agreed to the largest pitching contract in major league history, at least $140 million.

So the Skanks have to offer 40% more than the other teams to get a player to play for them?

Ehh, Yanks had to overpay but they got their man.

Still, I wonder why they did the extra year, it's classic bidding against themselves. There was no market for such a move.

Funny, all the fans of other teams are crying that it's not fair... Truth is, this contract means all the teams like Pittsburgh and KC can spend more on their players since the Yankees are giving them extra money now.

the one thing i was curious about was why it took cc so long to sign the paperwork..this was by far the best deal he was getting..why not just jump into it?

The Yankees raised it to 7/160.

The nearest offer at that point was probably 50 million less. He realized any Cali team wouldn't get in that strosphere and had to take it.

That deal would be awful. I'll just keep saying it. Ben Sheets. Shorter contract. Less money. Lowe was not that great on Boston 4 years ago. He is not like wine, he will not get better with age.

As for CC, it could be worse. I could be paying him 160 million.

I agree, I'm happy we got him, but I'm skeptical since every other big name pitcher we got has fallen apart when he went to NY. I also don't want to think of seeing a 300 pound 35 year old CC pitching for us in 5 years.
