Mangini Defensive Coordinator Speculation- NBC Sports

    Excerpt:

Manginiís hiring could lead to Crennel staying with the Browns. After his dismissal, Crennel told Lerner he was open to remaining with Cleveland as an assistant, depending on who replaced him.

Mangini and Crennel became friends during their days as assistants with the Jets under Bill Parcells. Mangini was a defensive assistant while Crennel was the defensive line coach from 1997-99. Mangini followed Belichick to New England in 2000, and Crennel joined the Patriotsí staff a year later after a stint as Clevelandís defensive coordinator.

Crennel and his wife, Rosemary, stayed with Mangini and his wife, Julie, for about six months when the Crennels were having a home built after Romeo took the job as New Englandís defensive coordinator.

When Crennel was hired as Clevelandís coach, he wanted Mangini as his defensive coordinator but Mangini decided to take over Crennelís spot with the Patriots instead.

Mangini hired Rob Ryan as DC

    1/7/2009 8:27:00 PM et

Browns hired former Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to fill the same position in Cleveland, according to NFL.com's Adam Schefter.

Oakland has already lost RBs coach Tom Rathman, OC Greg Knapp, and now Ryan, not to mention the assistants Lane Kiffin made off with to Tennessee. Buddy's lesser known son, Ryan's units were dictated by Al Davis in Oakland so we can't say for sure how they'll look with the Browns. The Raiders' 4-3 was awful against the run and used no blitzes. Ryan has experience running the 3-4, however, and will very likely employ that alignment in Cleveland.

I would hope we bring him back.. Our defense was much better.. His defensive game plans are top notch.. Always throwing something different at someone.. Since he's left, Manning has carved up the Pats..
