Chiefs sign Stanford Routt to 3-yr, $19.6 million deal

The Chiefs move to sign Stanford Routt to 3-yr, $19.6 million deal says a lot. It says they are going to be more man-to-man in coverage

With more than $52 million of contracts tied up in CBs Brandon Flowers and Stanford Routt, expect KC to let Brandon Carr walk

Brandon Carr a candidate for a switch to safety maybe?

i admittedly don't know much about the specifics of Carr other then I love signing him in Madden.

Flowers and Routt make an excellent pair of corners, not close to Revis/Cromartie though.

Isn't this tampering? Doesn't Free Agency begin in like the middle of March?

He was released so he can sign with anyone he wants. Free Agency only starts at a certain time because that's when most contracts expire.

This. Not common with starters but you do see teams sign a bunch of players right now. We signed about 20 players last month. Including Gilyard, Riley, Landolt, Dexter Jackson, Matt Kroul, and Campbell who all have a shot at making the team.

Gilyard was signed by the Eagles to a futures contract

Routt is getting $7MM per off of one good season. The market for corners is ridiculous. They should all give Rex a cut for making everyone believe they are worth the money.

Routt fits Crennel's system better. Carr might be a little better (I guess, who really knows), but Routt is much, much cheaper. That being said, the Chiefs have so much money under the cap, they better do some serious signing. Bowe may be franchised. then still they have a ton of cap room. The chiefs D is really on the rise. They don't have many holes there ... maybe a new NT. If I am a KC fan I am clamoring for some offensive players there. Maybe another a big time WR to pair with Bowe. Probably an upgrade or two on the OL. They are getting Jamaal Charles back. Really, the weakest link might be Cassel. Chiefs are definitely on the rise. That is, of course, Cassel and Crennel screw it up. Entirely possible. But on paper, the Chiefs look like they can make some noise in the coming years.

    End of Chiefs talk nnnnnnnow.

Routt would have signed for more . The chiefs got him at a discount. Reason being Raiders have to pay Routt four Million dollars guaranteed in March. (first one they saved four million, this one guaranteed for four million) That 4 million was taken into account by his agent .
