yes; also visited the Missouri. Did you know her big guns could launch a VW Beetle 20 miles? That's crazy.

The Arizona Memorial movie they show was pretty emotional. 9/11 feelings resurfaced during that...

Where'd you stay on the islands? Last time I was there, I stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Oahu, and the Maui Prince in Maui.

Welcome back Q. You need to chime in on the "Going to Detroit" thread so Ragu doesn't get all frothy.

Yep, knew about the bug. We have the Wisconsin here in Norfolk.

The Arizona Memorial is something I wish every American could attend. It's very moving. I was fortunate enough to have gone there in the 80's and there was a park volunteer there who was a Pearl Harbor survivor that was stationed on the Oklahoma. He told his story and there wasn't one dry eye.

Last I knew, the Arizona was still leaking oil.

I was amazed at how respectful everyone was once they got on the shuttle and landed at the memorial. Hardly anyone spoke, and those that did, whispered.

Also learned about the Nevada, which a lot of accounts gloss over: her captain intentionally beached her and made her a sitting duck so she wouldn't sink in the channel and block the entrance to Pearl Harbor.

I wanted my son to learn everything possible because I've been telling him for years that he was born on an important date in American history.

Aston Waikiki on Oahu. Its literally right across the street from a beach in the shadow of Diamond Head. Hotel to Pacific Ocean: 95 ft.

Stayed at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Kaanapali on Maui. They took care of us so well, wrote a thank you to the hotel manager.

Nice. One night in Maui, we ate dinner at a restaurant up on the hill by wailea Ike drive. There was a massive wild fire on the hill across the Maalaea bay. Watched the fire at night on the deck of the restaurant eating ono drinking wine. Pictures didn't come out good, though. Must have been the camera, not the wine.
