The 2003 season started today with a crisp flawless morning session. On an overcast humid day, players were in shouldepads and helmets. No full gear until tomorrow. QB Chad Pennington was the most accurate QB of the morning making several nice throws downfield. Rookie WRs Cecil Moore (E. Tennessee State) and Michael Oliva (Cal Davis) made some impressive grabs. New Jets WR Curtis Conway had several good catches and it looked like he and Pennington have been playing together for years. At his post practice press conference Pennington said he felt his WR Corps were the strongest hes ever had. I think our receiving corps are stronger than last year. People talk about how we lost Laveranues, and we did lose a great receiver and player. But I think our corps are stronger. Pennington went on. Weve had to work harder and weve come together and we are stepping up our play.

Rookie FA RB Ian Smart (CW Post) was used both on offense and kick returns and looked good on Coach Edwards mentioned Smart in his morning press conference and said he was going to get a LONG look and a lot of playing time in the pre-season.

Top pick of 2002, DE Bryan Thomas looked in fabulous shape and seemed to be in the backfield during every play he participated in. Top pick of this year, newly signed Dewayne Robertson, had a good practice as well. Newly signed DT Chester McGlockton was at practice out of uniform observing. One word to describe this guy is MASSIVE. He looks like he needs a few weeks on the treadmill before he can practice. Check back to Jets Insider.com tomorrow for an exclusive interview with McGlockton.

Jets Insider.com has also learned that that C Dennis Sullivan and CB Will Hunter have been placed on the physically unable to perform list. O'Sullivan, a third-year player from Tulane University first signed with the Jets as a member of the practice squad on October 6, 1999 and has been active for portions of the past four seasons, playing in three games on special teams. He suffered a biceps injury during off-season drills. Hunter is a rookie free agent out of Syracuse University who signed with the Club on May 2. The 5-10, 190-pound native of Chester, Pennsylvania is recovering from an ankle injury

The Jets afternoon session starts today at 3:30. Check back to Jets Insider.com for all the latest training camp news and highlights.

I agree. Just thought that I'd present this to the fans here who link directly to the board and skip the main page.

I hope Chester mentors DR somewhat. I remember that when Chester came up, Howie Long helped him along. Chet has mentioned that several times throughout his career.

Hope he passes along some assistance.
