The Washington Post is reporting that barring an unexpected flurry of negotiations between The Redskins and Jack Reale Champ Bailey will not have a new contract when the Jets and the Redskins meet Thursday Night. Both sides are far apart on the issue of a signing bonus. The Redskins have intimated they might slap a franchise tag on Bailey in order to retain him after his current contract runs out.

I wonder if his heart is going to be in the game Thursdat Night !

The sticking point is how the bonus would be paid out. The redskins want to distribute it over 3 seasons. Bailey wants the money up front.

They still offered him a ton of cake. He is stupid for not taking it IMO.

Bailey's expectations rose when he saw Coles' SB, IMO.

I agree because at the end of the day, no team is going to give you as much money as the Redskins whether you're worth it or not.

Yes the conventional meaning of the term signing bonus does mean the loot is shelled out at the time of signing. Teams however are taking a different tact and distrubuting them over a number of seasons and rephrasing the payment as a "roster bonus"

BTW Coles' bonus was broken up into 3 payments

I think the Cardinals, Jaguars, Vikings, and Panthers will all have the money to get Bailey.

The pathers and Vikes would be a good fit.

Any they both have the Cap room to pay him.

Another team that has the Cap room to pay him, but never uses it on high-priced players is the Eagles.

They might have a problem because Vincent and Taylor are getting old & Lito Sheppard has looked nothing like a bust, so you might see Champ Bailey as an eagle.

Well one thing's for sure, either Bailey or Arrington have to go. Sorry Danny Boy but the cap prohibits you from spending money on overpaid recievers and quality players.

Why cnat they sign Bailey they already offered tomake him the highest paid in the game, they will save money by franchising him. Which is why the ravens did to Mccalister and the seahawks and rams did to Pace and Jones. It is cheaper to franchise the best players than risk signing them long term and them getting injured while you owe them big bucks.

Franchising is only a temporary solution. Once the franchise period is up the team still has to negotiate with the player which is now meaner and nastier than ever !
