Hope the Astros dumping Wagner doesn't help them clear enough salary to make a run at Pettitte. Yanks still have exclusive negotiating rights with Pettitte through Saturday.Do it!

Ya think they're grooming Mattingly to replace Torre next year? Torre leaving might not bother anyone if Mattingly gets the job.

It seems more likely that they're grooming Randolph for it.

He'd be another popular fan choice, he has the experience, and he'll shut up those yelling for more minority managers.

The Mattingly deal sounds like good news. Please, Mel, give us another year or two.

    And, SIGN ANDY PETTITE NOW!!!

It's obvious the astros are clearing payroll to make a run at Pettite. Hope the Yanks tell him that after they sign him, if they do, he will never winn again, as the Astros won't spend again to get what they need.

It seems to me Randolf is the next in line after Torre. Bench coach, after many years as a coach on the baselines (1st and 3rd). Also, he's been interviewed for more than 10 openings the past 3 years. This locks him up to remain here to replace Torre. Having Mattingly means Willie has at least 1 ally in his back pocket.

If Willie is next, look for a veteren career baseball type to be his bench coach. Another Zimmer type.

    uhh NO.

Pettite is good and all but this would be another Glavine situation, personally I'd be embarrased to have signed both he and Glavine.
