Jets to Interview Eagles' Rivera

The Jets expect to get permission from the Eagles to interview linebackers coach Ron Rivera for their defensive coordinator opening this week.

If coach Herman Edwards doesn't meet with Rivera at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., before tomorrow, the interview is likely to take place at the Jets' Hempstead facility before the end of the week.

Rivera, 42, is from Fort Ord, Calif., where Edwards grew up, and attends Edwards' football camp there each summer.

Like Edwards, Rivera played football at Cal. He has been the Eagles' linebackers coach since 1999 and recently has emerged as one of defensive coordinator Jim Johnson's most trusted assistants.

Saw this in Newsday yesterday. May not be a bad choice as the Eagles have had some good defenses over the last few seasons and he has been apart of that.
