    Mandatory rock (condensed list):

"Rhytyhm of the Saints" - Paul Simon
"Live and Dangerous" - Thin Lizzy
    "Physical Graffiti" - Zep
    "Aja" - Steely Dan
"From the Inside" - Alice Cooper'
"Shear Heart Attack" - Queen. (this album still gives me goosebumps)
"Surfing with the Alien" - Joe Satriani
    "Montrose" - Montrose
"Toys in the Attic/Get Your Wings" - Aerosmith
"Eat a Peach" - Allman Brothers
    "Highway to H*ll" - AC/DC
"Double Live Gonzo" - Ted Nugent

No "Hotel California" or "Rumours" or "Dark Side of the Moon". We all agree that they are the standards of the entire movement.

    Mandatory Metal cd's.

"Number of the Beast" and "Piece of Mind" - Iron Maiden.
    "Headhunter" - Krokus
"Balls to the Wall" and "Restless and Wild" - Accept
    "Ride the Lightning" - Metallica
    "Into the Abyss" - Slayer
All Judas Priest from "Sad Wings of Destiny" to "Turbo". None after.
"Melissa" - King Diamond and Merciful Fate.
"Mob Rules" - Black Sabbath (see below)
"Holy Diver" - Ronnie James Dio
    Motley Crue debut cd.

Ozzy/Black Sabbath/Deep Purple/Zeppelin not considered Heavy Metal to me. Although they really started the trend (especially Sabbath) they transcend trivial titles like metal or rock. However, Black Sabbath with Dio and Ian Gillain was straight metal minus the menace.

Never really liked Steely Dan either ... but ironically, "never going back to my old school" is one of my all-time favorite songs

Dude, not for nothing but Steely Dan can make the most complicated piece of music sound easy. They might be the most talented pop song writers ever. Donald Fagan is a genious.

    Anyway

    Moe- No Doy
    Widespread Panic- Aint Life Grand
    SOD- Speak English or Die
    Peter Tosh - Legaliz it
    Marley- Uprising
    Wilco- Being There
    Warren Zevon- Excitable Boy

Ill add more later when I get time

here we go again with the "steely dan are increadible musicians..." routine. I say they are not half as talented as some think. sure they are good players, but so are others. their songwriting is marginal at best, imo.

as crazy as it sounds, there are many death metal bands with increadibly difficult music that in some ways are just as good of musicians as they are. but to each his own

    yes bob marley i forgot

and to further bash steely dan, what they do is NOTHING groundbreaking. just doing what others have done. they havent created anything new or original.

at least a band like the boredoms from japan do things nobody has done before and that gets more credit from me..

God, do i hate steely dan................

Speak English or Die is one of the funniest records ever. "What's that noise?", "Ode to Jimi Hendrix"... funny stuff.

Appetite for Destruction- to me, the best rock record ever.
Operation Mindcrime- Queensryche is the most underrated band.
Number of the Beast- Fantastic lyrically and melodically.
...And Justice for All- Metallica's last great record.
Mechanical Resonance- Tesla was more than just a hair band- at first.

Fine, guess you dont like them and nothing I can do to change that, but I am a fan, and I love trying to learn their songs.very difficult to master.

Dick, what band is original? There is only so much you can do, especially in a pop/rock/metal/rap genre.
