a rod butchered a double play ball. if he picks it up after the first bobble, he still could have made the play at the plate. but no, mo did not look sharp.

on average a top closer can only be a top closer for 3 years - over time one of the only exceptions to this rule has been Mariano Rivera

it's very possible the Yanks pulled a "mo lewis" and kept this guy around 1 year too long.

they say he is money in October but the problem is getting there

I guess taking the winter off didn't help him much. Maybe if Torre didn't overwork him so much, he could have thrown a bit over the off season.

I think you are all missing the real reason.

Mariano has 1 pitch. It's an incredible pitch, but when you face the same team OVER and OVER the way he's played the Redsox, they are going to figure it out. I still say he has 35 saves and blows less then 7 (that's 5 more this year).

I don't think he's done but I do think the Red Sox know and own him now. He and the Yankees refuse to compensate for that

Are you guys kidding me he has 2 bad games and hes done? Lets at least see how he does next week @ fenway overall this game didnt really matter It is basicly spring training, If Mariano continues to pitch like this then maybe Tanyon Sturtze can close for the yanks, he has been money vs the sox

Why dont you worry about your own closer and bullpen and pitching staff and infield for that matter.
