In what could only be described as a mercy killing, the 2020-21 Jets season was finally put down at the hands of the New England Patriots. Losing to the Patriots in Foxborough; a refrain all too normal in a season that was anything but ordinary.

The Patriots absolutely crushed the Jets in a game that was never as close as the score indicated. The Jets were able to move the ball early, but ultimately could not overcome the losses of star rookies Mekhi Becton and Denzel Mims to injury, nor the crippling bad play of third year QB Sam Darnold.

There really isn’t much to say about this game. It was just something to get through before things might finally get better. Three years ago the Jets made the befuddling decision to retain general manager Mike Maccaggnan, and we have been dealing with the consequences of that fateful decision ever since. They hired Adam Gase, arguably the worst coach in NFL history. The once promising career of Sam Darnold has been smashed beyond repair. The Jets have become the laughing stock of the entire league.

But now we’ve made it through this nightmare season, the last remnants of this miserable chapter in Jets history are about to be flushed away. Gregg Williams is already fired, Adam Gase will certainly be fired (more on that later) and Sam Darnold will almost assuredly be replaced. The Jets will have a chance to start a new era with a boatload of cap space, a war chest of high draft picks, and a new coach.

In the meantime, it’s been an… unforgettable season. A season so miserable that Frank Gore literally retired the second midway through a game. Let me be the first to congratulate you in surviving one of the worst times to be a Jets fan that there will ever be. It wasn’t easy, and every Jets fan that has stood by their team through this torture should be commended for their loyalty. You deserve a lot better than this, and in the coming years, you might actually get it! For the first time in three years, there is real reason for optimism in New York City.
