In desperate need of help in the secondary, the Jets signed safety J.R. Reed to the 53-man roster. Reed (5-11/202) signed with the Eagles on Sept. 2, 2007 and played in five games, recording three special teams tackles. He was then released by the team on Oct. 21. In five seasons, Reed has had stints with the Rams, Falcons, Giants and Eagles and has totaled 50 tackles and 39 special teams tackles in 40 games (four starts).

Through 13 games, the Jets rank 31st in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game (251.2 yards).
