New Jets General Manager, Joe Douglas, has begun to fill out the rest of his front office by hiring three familiar names, two names very familiar to him and one very familiar to the Jets.

The name familiar to the Jets is Rex Hogan, who was the director of college scouting under Mike Maccagnan before bolting to Indianapolis as the Vice President of Player Personnel with the Colts. Hogan will be the assistant GM to Douglas with the Jets. Douglas has no working relationship with Hogan, but is a well respected personnel guy with plenty of front office experience and will be someone Douglas can lean on heavily as he adjusts to being the big boss in the building.

The Jets also hired Chad Alexander to be their Director of Player Personnel. Alexander spent the past 20 years with the Baltimore Ravens, where he worked with Douglas during his time in Baltimore, first working as a scout before recently being promoted to Assistant Director of Pro and College Personnel. Alexander will continue that role with the Jets, but he will do so working with Douglas.

The third addition to this front office staff is Phil Savage, who will serve as a senior advisor to Douglas. Savage also worked for the Ravens, along with both Douglas and Alexander, from 1996-2004 before accepting the GM job with the Cleveland Browns. More recently, and importantly, Savage was the executive director of the Senior Bowl and all the contacts that he was able to make during that time should help the Jets get a better feel for any players coming out of college. As the executive director of the Senior Bowl Savage was responsible for finding the best senior players in the country, regardless of what school they played at or even what division the played in which will certainly come in handy around draft time for Douglas and again, he can lean on the contacts he formed in that role to get all sorts of inside information about players, their personalities on and off field, how hard they work, etc etc.
